Banks County’s Lady Leopards broke their losing streak on the soccer field last week 1-0 win over Rabun County. The first win of the season, secured by senior Starr Thurmond, was followed by a very tough sub-region game Friday.
The Lady Leopards took on Union County on the road and were defeated 4-0.
With the loss dropping the team to 1-9 overall, the girls now look to pull together for the remaining matches of the season.
Tuesday, March 29, the Banks County soccer teams were scheduled to take on East Hall. Results from those games were unavailable at press time.
Still ahead this week, the boys and girls soccer teams host East Jackson Friday night, April 1.
The final home match is also senior night for both teams with the Lady Leopards and Leopards both honoring the team’s seniors at the game. The girls are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m., with the boys to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Next week, the team will be off as the school goes on spring break. The teams return April 11 to finish the season on the road at Madison County.
The Leopards struggled last week against Rabun County, according to coach Mike Boomer.
“We just made several mental errors and could not finish,” he said.
Rabun County defeated the boys in a 5-0 sweep.
Banks County’s boys bounced back as the Leopards faced Union County Friday. Union is considered the best team in the region, and Banks County held the Panthers to a 1-1 tie until the last 18 minutes of play after Mark Loggins scored for the Leopards.
“Overall our performance was great,” said Boomer. “We changed our formation the day before the game and everyone adjusted well to their new roles.”
This was the first time in five or six years the Leopards have managed to score a goal over Union, according to Boomer.
Union County won, 4-1.
