The boys also played a very even game. Despite opportunities at both ends and pressure by both teams, the match ended in a scoreless tie, sending it into double overtime. The Eagles kept their cool, with Jon Love and Victor Equiarte scoring to give East Jackson the 1-0 victory.

“It’s always a genuine pleasure to play JCCHS as so many of our players, fans and coaches know each other well,” said coach Chris Cooley.

Both teams traveled to Jefferson on Friday in what proved to be a difficult set of matches.

The girls found themselves on the short end of a 1-0 score after the first half, and Jefferson scored again in the second half to win 2-0.

Worse yet, East Jackson’s Skyler Cozzens broke a leg and had to be transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

The boys had similar results. The Eagles controlled the game for the first 20 minutes but were unable to score. Jefferson took control over the next 15 minutes and scored three goals while East Jackson switched out injured players.

The Eagles were able to stabilize in the second half, with Yeng Xiong scoring, but could not catch the Dragons, as Jefferson went on to win 3-1.

“It was a disappointing game for us, but Jefferson played well and deserved the win,” Cooley said.
