Tigers Host Riverside

The Commerce boys’ and girls’ tennis teams fell to Towns County, Lakeview and Athens Christian over the past week.

The tennis Tigers hope to end their regular season on a high note this week. They were slated to host Tallulah Falls on Tuesday in what would be the regular season finale for the girls’ team. Results of that match were unavailable at press time.

The boys are scheduled to wrap up their regular season on Thursday, hosting Riverside at 4 p.m.

The Commerce netters started last week with a Tuesday trip to Towns County, where the Indians swept both sides, 5-0.

Two days later, Commerce was at at Lakeview where the boys were again swept 5-0.

“On the guys’ side, we had three three-set matches that we all just came up short on,” said coach John Allen.

The girls lost 4-1, with their lone win coming at number three singles when Beth Pritchett picked up the victory in a three-set match.

Commerce opened up play this week by hosting Athens Christian. The boys came up just short, losing 3-2. Junior Chase Klugh won 8-4 at number two singles and sophomore Dawson Knick won 8-6 at number three singles. The deciding match came down to number two doubles, which Commerce lost 8-6.

The girls, meanwhile, lost 5-0 to the Lady Eagles.
