The Madison County track team brought home a third-place finish from Hart County last Thursday.
In the tri-meet with Hart and Seneca, S.C., Madison County had several athletes finish inside the top five in their events.
While third was a good finish for the team last week, coach Jamie Sims is looking for improvement.
“Overall as a team we are making good progress with such a young group and inexperienced in many events this year,” he said. “They are a great group of kids and are really busting their rear-ends day end and day out and it will eventually pay off as we continue to have more meets. I look forward to seeing our kids start to show more and more improvement, especially this week with a full schedule.”
The team competed Monday at Walnut Grove; results were unavailable at press time.
Still ahead this week, Madison County hosts the rescheduled meet from March 15 with Elbert, Washington Wilkes and Taliaferro County. Rain forced the postponement of the original meet date. The home meet is set for this afternoon (Thursday).
Coming up the Red Raider track and field team heads to Cedar Shoals Saturday to compete in the Loch Johnson Invitational.
