SOCCER: Wildcats now on track in region play

The recent success enjoyed by the Apalachee High School boys soccer team continued last week as the Wildcats downed Loganville 3-2 at R. Harold Harrison Stadium.

That win improved coach Chad Hooper’s team to 2-2 in region play and 5-4 overall.

"It was a good win for us,” the Wildcat coach said. “We were up 2-0 with about 18 minutes to go when we lost our concentration on defense for a few minutes.”

Loganville managed to tie the contest but AHS would eventually win in overtime on a goal by Christian Vasquez.

While an earlier loss to Clarke Central still stings, Hooper said the three consecutive region victories have been a nice turnaround.

“The key for us the rest of the way will be to keep everyone healthy,” Hooper said. “We haven’t had our full team recently. We will still be missing a few players this week.”

Guy Hunt and Shawn Yang also added goals for the Wildcats in the region win.

The AHS girls dropped a 2-1 decision to Loganville. It was the first region loss of the spring for the Lady Cats.

The AHS girls also fell to Buford 4-3 Friday.
