Jazmond Taylor was expected to lead the Madison County High School runners this year, and he did not disappoint in the season opener.
Taylor, a senior, clocked a 18:35 (believed to be a career-best) to win the B-team race Saturday at the Northeast Georgia Championships at Athens Christian.
“I don’t think he’s dipped under 19 (minutes) before so I’m pleased he was able to begin the season with such an improvement from last year,” coach Tim Cornett said. “He’s in great position to knock that time down throughout the season and run fast times in November.”
Madison County finished fourth out of 18 squads in the B-team event. Cornett entered his team in the lower-tier race to help ease it into the season.
