The Commerce Tiger baseball team saw a three-game winning streak snapped by Prince Avenue, then rebounded for a big win over Towns County.
The Tigers will travel to Tallulah Falls Friday for a 5:15 game against the Indians, who are 0-5 on the season.
Prince Avenue
Commerce played host to Prince Avenue last Tuesday, hoping to pick up its fifth region win.
Despite a home run by Cody Streetman and 16 strikeouts on the mound from pitcher Colton Davis, Commerce came up short, losing 7-5 to the Wolverines.
Davis recorded the loss, going all seven innings. He gave us six hits and seven runs
Davis also contributed two RBIs in a 1-for-3 day at the plate.
“We were just not ready mentally to play baseball on Tuesday,” said coach Steve Cotrell. “We made five errors and mishandled two routine bunts in the second inning that cost us a couple of runs too.”
Towns County
Coming off the loss to Prince Avenue, the Tigers hosted Towns County Friday.
Commerce got off to a strong start, aided by a three-run homer from freshman Keenan Lord, and came away with a 13-3 victory in a game that went just five innings.
Robert Hayes recorded the win on the mound, giving up five hits and three runs in four innings.
Offensive leaders included senior Brandon Brooks who went 3-for-3, Streetman (2-for-3 with two RBIs), Swistak (2-for-4) and Addison Davis (2-for-3).
