MCHS boys soccer add two big wins

Starting off region competition against Clarke Central, both the boys and girls were defeated Feb. 25.

The Red Raiders fell 2-0 while the Lady Red Raiders (see below) were swept 8-0.

The boys rebounded quickly with a 4-2 win over Rockdale County, adding the first region victory of the year for the Red Raiders. Currently, the boys are 2-3 in region play. ...

“The team played extremely well in the opening half, generating a lot of chances; we should have been up by five or six goals at halftime rather than just two,” said coach Trevor Mangan.

The Lady Red Raiders haven't fared well in the past four games, recording four loses at the start of region play.

Against Clarke Central, the ladies dominated the first 20 minutes of play, putting four shots on the goal and keeping the ball on the offense, but were unsuccessful as communication broke down late in the game. Clarke Central swept through for the 8-0 win.

Another dominating performance by the girls looked like it would provide the win over Rockdale, but the Lady Bulldogs snatched victory away, 4-3.

“We have never been able to play all the Rockdale County teams (to my knowledge) to a full 80-minute game until this year,” said coach Molly McCarty. “One or the other have always managed to mercy rule us. We also have never been able to place the ball in the net against them until this season. So, for us to lose only 3-0 to Salem, was a win for us to say the least.”
