THERE WAS perhaps more of a sense of relief than elation for Jackson County boys’ soccer coach Joseph Brubaker following his team’s Tuesday night win over Jefferson.
The Panthers beat the cross-town rival Dragons 1-0 at home behind a goal from Spencer Feltner.

“We survived,” Brubaker said. “We survived the whole second half.”
After a scoreless first half, Feltner scored in the second period and the Panthers held on for the victory.
Brubaker was pleased with the defensive effort for the most part in the shutout but pointed out some areas that need a little more attention.
“We sort of held on,” Brubaker said. “We had great goalkeeping. But we’ve got to show a little more urgency to win balls in games like this, and that will come with time. We’ve got some youth out there in some first-time varsity matches. The keeper saved us several times, Christian Villa — a heck of a game back there.”
With the victory, Jackson County (3-2-1, 2-0) now has a three-game winning streak and remains unbeaten in subregion play heading into a Friday night contest with Hart County (1-4, 0-2).
“We’re still undefeated in the subregion so that goal is accomplished,” Brubaker said. “Those are the positives, but we’ve got to get back after it tomorrow.”
