It was a split result for East Jackson last week, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams fell to Madison County but both rebounded to defeat Jefferson.
East Jackson returns to action on Thursday as they host Apalachee. The girls’ contest starts at 5:30, with the boys’ game to follow at 7:30.
Madison County
After a strong start to the season, East Jackson suffered its first losses of the young season last Tuesday against Madison County.
The girls played without Haley Simmons, who is sidelined with a broken foot. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Lady Eagles saw two more goals scored in the second, as Madison County went on to win 3-0.
“Skyler Cozzens, Hayley Smith, and Dakota Chandler all played a good game,” said coach Randy Hill.
The boys came out playing hard and scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead. But the Raiders came back to score two goals, making it 2-1 at the end of the first half. The Eagles would score early on in the second half to tie the game. It would stay that way until the end, when Madison scored two goals to one for the Eagles to win 4-3.
Jefferson
On Friday, East Jackson got back in the win columns with both teams winning 2-1.
After conceding a goal in the first half, the Lady Eagles come back to tie the game in the second half. The score remained tied after one overtime, and then went to penalty kicks. After five kicks each, the score again remained tied, thanks to a diving save from Jessica Alacron. In sudden victory penalty kicks, East Jackson’s Hayleigh Smith scored and Jefferson’s player missed, giving the Lady Eagles the win.
“Our young girls are playing better each game,” Hill said. “We have several injuries that we hope to overcome by region time.”
The boys went though the first half of their game with no score. Jefferson got on the board first in the second half, scoring from a scramble at the goal. Within two minutes, the Eagles tied the score with a strike from Jonathan Zarco.
With two minutes left to play, Zarco tried to score again and was brought down in the box for a penalty. Cody Adams kicked in the penalty for East Jackson, giving the Eagles the 2-1 victory.
