Tigers Fall To Eagles At State

The Commerce Tiger basketball team saw its season come to a close Saturday in the second round of state playoff action at the hands of North Cobb Christian, 71-63.

The Tigers closed their season with a 12-2 region record, and a 20-7 mark overall.

To get to the second round, the Tigers first beat the Landmark Christian School War Eagles on Tuesday, Feb. 22, in the opening round of the tournament.

In that contest, the Tigers took control early, moving out to an 18-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the War Eagles rallied to tie up the game late in the second quarter. Commerce led 33-32 at the half.

The game remained tight in the third quarter, but the Tigers managed a six-point advantage, 47-41, by the end of the third. Landmark tried to overcome the deficit over the final eight minutes, but the Tigers held on for the 62-59 victory.

Brandon Romans led the Tiger offense with 24 points. Tyler Gamble added 18, Anthony Norris eight, Channing Anderson five, Thomas McMillan three and Bubba Bonds two.

The Tigers next traveled to Kennesaw to face the Eagles of North Cobb Christian.

The game was tight from the start, with the first quarter ending in a 16-16 draw, North Cobb up 29-27 at the half and the Tigers down 46-42 after three quarters.

But over the final eight minutes, North Cobb moved out to an eight-point advantage, winning 71-63.
