Commerce Opens Golf Season

The Commerce Tigers’ and Lady Tigers’ golf seasons got under way last week, as Commerce played host to Banks County at Double Oaks golf course.

Both teams return to action Thursday, as they travel to Traditions to face Jackson County. That will be followed by another trip to Traditions to face the Dragons and Lady Dragons on March 1.

With the match against Banks County not being a region pairing, scores were not tallied. Coach Josh Shoemaker said with the cold weather that has plagued the area over the last month, it has been hard for his teams to get in a good practice.

“I was glad to get the first match played and we are hoping for some good weather the rest of the year,” he said.

The Tigers faced Madison County on Monday. While team scores were not recorded, Haley Chestnut was the top performer for the girls’ team, shooting a 52, while Emmie Burley shot a 61.

Austin Patterson topped the boys with a 49, followed by Dalton Dean with a 51, Tyler Childs with a 52 and Dylan Young with a 53.
