Red Raiders sending seven to sectionals

Advancing seven to the podium and earning their positions for the Feb. 10-11 sectionals, the Red Raiders are looking to push all seven through the sectionals and onto the state tournament, Feb. 17-19 at the Gwinnett Arena.

Earning the highest finish from region for Madison County, Isaac Ruiz went undefeated at 145 lbs. Earning runner-up positions were Cody Phillips going 3-1 at 125 lbs. behind Loganville’s wrestler; and Kyle Bates going 2-1 at 160 lbs. and ended behind another Loganville grappler.

At 119 lbs., Max Nash finished third, while also earning a third place honor was Kyle Gordon at 189 lbs. Donnie Harper at 130 lbs. brought back a fourth place finish from region, as did Tanner Johnson at 171 lbs.

These seven wrestlers now compete Friday in the first round of the sectionals at Loganville.

In the first rounds, Nash takes on Fayette County’s Daniel Ward at 112; Phillips takes on Gabe Myers of Brunswick at 125; Harper takes on Austin Penland of Whitewater at 130; Ruiz takes on Brunswicks’ Troy Doster at 145; Bates takes on Dylan Parker of Ola at 160; Johnson takes on Brandon Macklunis of Effingham County at 171; and Gordon takes on Wesley Williams of Miller Grove at 189.
