13 Mat Tigers Head For Sectionals

The Commerce mat Tigers had a strong showing in the area tournament at Jefferson over the weekend, qualifying 13 of 14 wrestlers for this weekend’s sectional tournament at Social Circle.

Four wrestlers won Area championships in their respective weight classes, including Cody Legg (103 lbs.), Josh Westmoreland (130 lbs.), Addison Davis (160 lbs.) and Chance McClure (189 lbs.).

Three Tigers were area runners-up, including Drew Whitfield (119 lbs.), Greyson Cochran (135 lbs.) and Serguio Rojas (285 lbs.).

Jacob Harrison (112 lbs.) and Zach Harmon (215 lbs.) placed third. Cole Ledford (140 lbs.), Tyler Reddish (145 lbs.), Thomas Sweeney (152 lbs.) and Morgan Flint (171 lbs.) placed fourth.

Wrestlers placing fourth or better advanced to the sectional tournament. Nick Henderson (125 lbs.) placed fifth, and is an alternate for the team.

Commerce came out on top of the area tournament, scoring 216 points to lead Wesleyan, Athens Christian, First Presbyterian, Social Circle, George Walton Academy, Washington-Wilkes, Riverside, Georgia Academy For The Blind and Georgia Military College.
