The East Jackson Eagles find themselves in a late season slump after dropping games to Jackson County and Jefferson last week. That puts them at 4-6 in the region and 9-14 overall, trailing Hart, Elbert and Jefferson in the region standings.
The Eagles will wrap up their regular season Friday as they travel to Bogart to face the North Oconee Titans.
The Titans are coming off of a 53-48 victory over Oglethorpe County, leaving them 2-7 in the region and 7-15 overall.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
Jackson County
East Jackson traveled to JCCHS on Friday for its second meeting of the season with the Panthers.
From the start, the Eagles’ offense had issue, scoring just six points in the first quarter and 14 by the half. But the defense stepped up to keep East Jackson in the game and by the half, the Eagles trailed by just 10 points.
The third quarter went a little better for East Jackson, as the Eagles trimmed the lead to six. But in the fourth, the offense fell flat again and Jackson County got some easy baskets and made its free throws to win 51-29.
Jermaine Davis led the Eagles with 12 points. Cody Gibbs scored 10.
“We did not play inspired basketball and found ourselves traveling from the very tip of the game,” said coach Brian Turner.
Jefferson
On Saturday, the Eagles hosted the Jefferson Dragons in the first meeting of the two teams this season.
East Jackson took an early lead and held a one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. The lead changed hands over the next two quarters, and by the end of the third, East Jackson held a 42-39 advantage.
With the game seemingly within its grasp, poor free throw shooting in the fourth quarter opened the door for Jefferson, as the Dragons banked in two three-pointers, including one with less than a second on the clock to tie the game and send the contest into overtime.
Jefferson took the lead early in overtime, and a costly turnover and intentional foul put the Eagles in a hole they could not pull out of. In the end, the Eagles lost 69-61.
Cody Gibbs scored a career high 30 points to lead the Eagles. Jemaine Davis scored 19.
