Eagle Grapplers Aim For Sectionals

The mat Eagles of East Jackson wrapped up their regular season over the weekend with a strong showing in the Sweet Onion Classic at Toombs County.

Now East Jackson is preparing for the post-season, with its first stop being Jefferson on Friday and Saturday for the region 8-AA traditional tournament. That will be followed by the sectional traditional tournament at Dublin on Feb. 11 and 12, and the state traditional tournament at the Gwinnett Civic Center Feb. 17-19.

East Jackson traveled to Toombs County over the weekend for the Sweet Onion Classic tournament. They came back with a 10th place result out of 18 teams, scoring 49 points, with two wrestlers placing fourth.

The mat Eagles trailed tournament champion Toombs County, West Laurens, Jackson County, Burke County, Irwin County, South Effingham, Jeff Davis, East Laurens and Coffee County. They beat out Swainsboro, H.V. Jenkins, Glynn Academy, Treutlen County, Vidalia, Dodge County, Telfair County and Screven County.

Victor Equirte went 4-2 in the 135 lb. category to place fourth. Drew Hunter also placed fourth in the 189 lb. class, going 4-2.

Other performers for East Jackson included Jesse Moore (3-2, 215 lbs.), Garrett Lott (2-2, 103 lbs.), John Robinette (3-2, 125 lbs.) and Jeffery Chandler (2-2, 285 lbs.).
