The Commerce Lady Tigers picked up a win against Tallulah Falls and dropped games to George Walton and Hebron last week.
With their record at 2-6 in the region and 4-11 overall, the Lady Tigers now get ready for a rare Thursday game, as they’ll travel to Social Circle to make up a game postponed from Jan. 15 due to snow.
The Lady Redskins enter the week off a 42-36 victory over Monroe Area, making them 2-6 in the region and 5-12 overall.
The Lady Tigers hope to snap a nine-game losing streak to Social Circle that dates back to December 2004. In their most recent meeting last February, the Lady Redskins won 46-36. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
George Walton
The Lady Tigers hosted George Walton on Tuesday, looking to get their first win of 2011.
It didn’t happen. The Lady Bulldogs took a 15-6 lead in the first quarter as Commerce worked without leading scorer Jaz Grier, who got into early foul trouble, for most of the quarter.
Commerce trailed 26-16, at the half, but George Walton pulled away in the second half and in the end won 50-28.
Grier and Vanessa Chandler led in scoring with nine points apiece. Drea Mathis added six.
Hebron
The Lady Tigers traveled to Hebron Christian Academy on Friday.
Commerce jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Lady Lions 12-5 in the opening eight minutes, but Hebron came back in the second, and the lead changed several times before the Lady Lions took a 24-19 advantage into the half.
The game remained close through the second half, but the Lady Tigers just couldn’t close the gap, as Hebron went on to win 54-41.
Grier led the offense with 23 points, followed by Chandler with nine and Lily Mather with seven.
Tallulah Falls
That first win of 2011 came on Saturday as the Lady Tigers traveled to Tallulah Falls to make up a game postponed from Jan. 11.
Commerce blew out to a 34-11 lead at the half, then went on to put the game away in the second half, winning 54-30.
“Saturday for once we had the other team outmanned,” McCurley said.
Grier led the scoring with 20 points in just two quarters of play. Mather and Hannah Davis scored eight each. Chandler added six.
