Tigers Fight Redskins Thursday

Commerce opened play last week by hosting George Walton Academy Tuesday night. The Tigers held their own early, leading 14-13 after one quarter, but the Bulldogs built a 32-27 lead at the break.

Commerce had its own surge in the third period, outscoring George Walton 19-9 to go up 46-41 entering the final quarter.

The final eight minutes of the regular play were nip and tuck and when the buzzer sounded the score was tied 61-61, sending the game into overtime, where the Bulldogs prevailed, 67-65.

Bubba Bonds led the Tigers with 24 points. Anthony Norris scored 14, Tyler Gamble 11, Brandon Romans seven, Thomas McMillan four and Channing Anderson scored four points and had 15 rebounds.

Hebron

The Tigers traveled to Dacula Friday to face the Hebron Christian Academy Lions.

Hebron pulled out to a 14-12 first-quarter lead, but the Tigers went up 25-23 at the half before a 20-12 third quarter gave them a 45-35 point lead en route to a 65-53 win.

Romans led the Tiger offense with 28 points, including seven three-pointers, and pulled down eight rebounds. Bonds scored 14, Marquese Butler, Gamble and Norris added six points each, Tyre Treadwell scored three and McMillan scored two.

Tallulah Falls

Next up was a trip to Tallulah Falls on Saturday to make up a game postponed from Jan. 11 due to snow.

Commerce jumped out to a comfortable early lead, 15-5, by the end of the opening eight minutes. At the half, the Tigers had increased that advantage to 31-18, and by the end of three the Tigers had a 60-28 lead as they coasted to a 78-35 victory.
