Grapplers earn 8th at Metro

Banks County wrestlers were back on the mats this past weekend at the East Metro tournament.

The East Metro tourney is the final tournament on the schedule before the Leopards turn their attention towards singles competition as the traditional area, sectionals and state tournament approach. The area 8-AA traditional tournament is next weekend, Feb. 4-5, at Jefferson.

The following week, Feb. 11-12, the state sectionals at Dublin are on deck. Then the big show is Feb. 17-19 at the Gwinnett Arena.

Due to the week of snow and ice, the state duals tournament will also be completed next month, Feb. 25-26. A location has yet to be announced.

With the season winding down, Banks County Leopards are still determined to make a show on the mats. The mat Leopards earned a top ten finish last weekend at Alcovy in the East Metro Tournament.

Finishing eighth with 121.5 points, Banks County was better than Jackson County, 11th, 103 points; Madison County, 12th, 102 points; North Oconee, 14th, 92 points.
Rockdale won the tournament at 187 points; Commerce placed second, 183.5; Clarke Central took third, 150.5.

Individually Mason Patton had the best finish for the Leopards, earning second at 112 lbs.

Hayden Dilbeck and Jeremy Greenway both finished in third place, Dilbeck at 152 lbs. and Greenway at 160 lbs. Francisco Hurtado was fifth in 130 lbs. class While Jordan Waters and Justin Fincannon made the finals list, Waters at 119 lbs. and Fincannon at 135 lbs.
