MCHS faces Clarke Central Friday night

There are moments that mark a turning point in a game and for Madison County that point has a way of happening when Stan Maxwell lays hands on the basketball.

During last Friday’s game against Habersham Central, the Red Raiders were neck-and-neck with the Raiders, holding a slim 14-12 lead after the first minutes.

Maxwell warmed up in the second quarter, slamming the ball for two dunks and putting the crowd on its feet and serving notice to the sub-region opponent.

Aggressive offense and a strong defense kept Madison County in the lead, and provided the win, 54-48.

Madison County improved to 2-1 in region play and 7-8 overall.

Maxwell led the offense with 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Trae Burton and Domonique Parrish kept pace with 14 points apiece. Josh Crouse contributed five points and Trey Carruth put in two.

Madison County faced Hart County Saturday in a barn-burner that came down to the wire as Hart County pulled out the victory, 58-57 in the non-region game.

The loss leaves Madison County at 2-1, 7-9 in the sub-region as the team prepares to face Clarke Central this Friday on the road. The Red Raiders will be on the hunt for a victory over the 2-1, 5-9 Gladiators.

Friday’s game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
