Banks County’s basketball teams were forced to make some changes to the schedule due to last week’s weather.
The Leopards and Lady Leopards played a rescheduled East Hall game on Saturday. Saturday’s original game against Oglethorpe County has been postponed until Jan. 29 at home starting at 4 p.m., Jan 29 will also be Senior Night for the Banks County teams.
Other changes necessary due to the snow and ice include the Jan. 11, Rabun County away game being played Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at home, with the following game against Rabun County being on the road, Jan. 28.
On Saturday, against East Hall, the Banks County teams didn’t fare as well as expected.
The Leopards lost by a 34-point margin, their largest deficit of the season.
The Vikings opened with a big advantage, 31-13 in the first quarter. Banks County was unable to catch the East Hall and placing the Leopards’ first sub-region loss on the books, 71-31.
Adam Hiten scored 12-points to try and get something going for the Leopards, but Banks County was unable to get a run going to overtake East Hall.
The Lady Leopards faced a solid East Hall girls’ team. The Lady Vikings handed the Banks County girls their second sub-region defeat in a 40-23 battle. Led by Taylor Kennedy with 14 points, the Lady Leopards managed to hold East Hall within reach during the first half, trailing 21-9.
Several missed scoring attempts after breaking away from the East Hall defense were costly mistakes for the Banks County girls as the Lady Vikings pulled further ahead in the second half.
With the teams returning to a normal schedule this week, the weekend will hold a chance for both Banks County teams to rebound back into the win column.
Facing Fannin County on the road this Friday, Banks County looks to be on the winning side of a tough contest. Having already faced the Rebels during the first part of the season at home, Banks County will look for road victory to head into the weekend. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. for the Lady Leopards, the boys will follow.
Coming up on Saturday, Jan. 22, it is back to the hardwood in Homer, as the Leopards and Lady Leopards host Rabun County in a 1 p.m. showdown.
Last season when Ruth was on suspension for 3 games and Loftis coached the boys WON all three games. Doesn't that speak volumes about the caliber of our current coach. Not to mention that if any of these kids were to have an option for a scholarship this coach will undoubtedly screw that up as well.
With a salary of 90k a year you would think Mike Ruth would put more thought to the way he treats and coaches these kids!!!!
Where did you get the $90k salary from? I'd be interested in knowing what some of these self proclaimed sports guru's earn from our taxes.
Its a shame that we have lost 4 good players already this year. We are down to only 10 players on the team and some of them are truly ready to quit. It seems this man just finds a way to lose and these kids are counting the minutes till the season is over. We have some real talented kids that with the right direction could be amazing players.
When I thought about not playing football he asked me a simple question that made the decision for me very easy," Why is an athlete as talented as you ready to sit in the stands and be a spectator when your team needs you?" This made me think why is someone who has no investment at all in the football program want me to play again? EASY ANSWER, THE MAN CARES.
When the attitudes of the players change that’s when the program will start winning until these young men grow up and begin to listen instead of quitting when they are getting disciplined Banks County will stay the same. The football program is proof enough of that I had 3 coaches in the 4 years that I played it’s not the coaching and it’s not the kids talent it’s the ATTITUDES.As our superintendents motto say, " Attitude is Everything".
