Snow/ice forces state duals postponement

After an outstanding performance at the 8-AA Area Team Duals, Jan. 7-8, the Banks County mat Leopards were set to turn the momentum from the second place finish at Jefferson into a high finish at the state duals in Macon last weekend - except the weather had other plans.

A snow and ice storm that paralyzed the state forced a delay in the action as the state duals were rescheduled for next month.

The date is not the only changes, forced by the postponement, the Feb. 25-26 state duals will no longer be centralized at the Macon Centreplex.

According to the announcement by the Georgia High School Association, further details about match locations will be determined and announced at a later date.

It is unclear if the first round brackets will change due to the relocation, but based on information available for the originally scheduled matches, Banks County faces Dublin in the first round.

Region 8-AA Area Champion Jefferson will match up against Greater Atlanta Christian (GAC).

Sonoraville, a team coach Kasey Hanley was keeping an eye on after facing the team last year at the duals, is paired with Cook. Depending on who wins, it would be the third step round in the brackets before Banks County faces Sonoraville.

Tuesday night, Jan. 18, the mat Leopards returned to the mats against Cedar Shoals and Riverside Military for Banks County’s senior night.
