Boys' basketball: Slow-starting Panthers fall to Dawson

The Panthers (9-7, 3-2), who trailed 14-5 after a quarter, fell to Dawson County 55-52 for their second-straight loss. Dawson County (11-3), however, resides in the other subregion, so this setback for Jackson County won’t affect the Panthers’ status in their subregion.

Still, it was a disappointing night for Jackson County, which was returning after an 11-day layoff.
“We looked like we were off, no question,” coach Britt Beaver said. “We were flat, and we did not play hard or rebound well.”

Jarvis Shaw led the Panthers with 17 points while Kolin Zimmer added 11.

Dawson County is good, Beaver said, but his team could have played better.

“Dawson (County) is 11-3 for a reason,” the coach said. “But we didn’t play hard.”

Jackson County, which is third in the subregion, has little time dwell on the loss. The Panthers face subregion foe North Oconee Friday and intra-county rival East Jackson Saturday – both on the road.

Jackson County then returns home Tuesday for a big rematch against Hart County.
