It was not the way the Tigers nation had hoped to see their season open. After losing against in-county rival Jefferson for the first time in 12 years last season, Commerce was looking for revenge on Friday night.
But what they got instead was a second year of defeat at the hands of the Dragons, as Jefferson won 35-14.
Jefferson got on the board early, and stayed on top, leading 21-0 going into halftime.
The Tigers came to life in the second half, and scored halfway through the third quarter to get on the board and attempt to mount a charge.
But Jefferson answered moments later with a touchdown on a quarterback keeper to move further ahead, 28-7.
Jefferson would score again, as would Commerce, but as hard as the Tigers tried to fight back, it was clear that Jefferson was in charge on the field.
Commerce will travel to Morgan County for their next game on Friday. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

On a new note, The coaching of this years Tigers seems to be slipping. I heard more times Friday night than I can count , fans saying, "Whats wrong with savage?" What's he thinking?" Another comment was , "I guess we will have another repeat of last year. Meaning, leaving in players who just are not cutting it. Because of who they are, or who their parents are. This seems to be the general concensus around town. Fans are tax payers afterall, and don't like to see their hard earned money going to waste. A reminder, Commerce is a football town! And winning is a commerce tradition! As always I will be there on Friday nights to support the Tigers, in the belief and faith that they will make a come back. Go Tigers!!!!
