Tigers Have To Wait On State Duals

Commerce was slated to face Mt. Zion-Carrollton in the opening round of the tournament. Now it’ll have to push on through the rest of the season and the state traditional before getting to that matchup.

“It was very disappointing for us not to be able to wrestle the state duals this weekend,” said coach Kendall Love. “I feel like we were ready to go and we had been wrestling well. We were the healthiest that we had been all year. Once the bad weather hit on Monday, I was afraid that we would not be able to get it in.”

Love said his team was unable to practice all week due to school being out because of the weather.

He added that he feels the plan to hold the state duals at the end of the season is not the best-case scenario.

“I am hearing some rumblings that GHSA may move the state duals to an earlier date,” he said. “I hope this happens but we will just have to wait and see. No matter what they decide, all we can do is keep preparing daily and try to stay injury fee until then.”

The mat Tigers return to action this week with a trip to Alcovy for the East Metro Tournament Friday and Saturday. That’s followed with a trip to Jefferson to face host Jackson County and Stephens County on Jan. 25. Commerce then travels to Duluth for the Duluth Invitational on Jan. 28-29 before facing Oconee on the road on Feb. 1.
