Historic day recorded for AHS swim program

The Apalachee High School swim team had one for the record book Saturday.

During a meet hosted by Habersham Central, AHS recorded the best finish team-wise in school history taking second place overall with a total of 446 points.

Some of the top performers for coach John Slater’s team included:

•girls 200 medley relay team, third place, 2:35.88, Brittany Laufer, Jessica Miller, Delana Vandergriff and Shannon McConnell.

•McConnell, second in 500 free.

•girls 200 free relay team, third, 2:13.66, Laufer, Vandergriff, Miller and McConnell.

•girls 400 free relay team, third, school record, Angela Quirantes, Marrisa Bridges, Vandergriff and Laufer.

Top performers for the AHS boys included:

•Sam Allen, first in 100 fly, 1:04.85 and second in the 200 individual medley, 2:27.74.

•Joseph Allen, third, 100 breaststroke, 1:14.75.

•400 free relay, 4:46.53.

Slater said the team also had several fourth, fifth and sixth place showings.

This was my first year ever swimming and I had such a blast doing it thank you coach slater and the rest of the team for making my senior year rock
