Doggs bury past as second half of campaign arrives

The Bulldoggs are rebuilding somewhat this season after losing several key players from last year’s Region 8-AAAA runner-up squad to graduation and another who transferred. The team has taken its bumps at times but the second-year WBHS coach knows it’s all part of a gradual, learning process.

“We’ve showed some improvements and we saw that tonight (against Apalachee),” Sokol said. “We want to continue to get better each time out and hopefully be in position to do something by the region tournament.”

The victory against county rival AHS was a good start for the Bulldoggs who entered this week 1-0 in subregion play. WBHS is scheduled to play at Clarke Central Friday before stepping out of region play against Central Gwinnett Saturday.

Sokol has been impressed with the play of Kendall Isler, who had a strong effort against AHS with 21 points and eight rebounds.

While the start of the season was somewhat slow, Sokol said the team has buried that part of the campaign — literally.

“We actually dug a hole and buried those games,” the coach said. “We are looking at a new start now. Getting this win was a nice way to begin the second half of the season.”
