Banks County’s Lady Leopards improved to 7-8 last week with a 57-45 win over the East Jackson Lady Eagles.
While slated to begin the brunt of region play this week, the snow and winter weather that blanketed the county forced the postponement of the Rabun County game on Tuesday and could mean that the Friday and Saturday games against East Hall and Oglethorpe would be rescheduled as well.
Coach Jerry King said, “Our games at East Hall and at home against Oglethorpe will be played if we are back in school.”
So far, makeup date(s) have not been announced.
Against East Jackson, Jan. 7, Banks County earned a 57-45 win and met more along the lines of King’s expectations for the girls’ shooting.
“We shot 53 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the arc and 59 percent from the free-throw line,” he said. “We played with a great deal more passion and the entire team created and sustained energy.”
The Lady Leopards came out of the gate looking to win, taking the early lead and led the entire game. After the first period, Banks County was up 21-13 over East Jackson. The Lady Eagles mounted a comeback in the second period to draw within three at the half, 27-24.
In the third period, the Lady Leopards extended out to a 14-point advantage, 44-30 and secured the win in the final minutes, 57-45.
Leading the scoring was Madison Franklin, 15 points, two assists, three steals, and two rebounds; Taylor Kennedy, 13 points, four assists, four rebounds, and a steal; Terri Cregar, 11 points, three rebounds, a steal, a block, and 5-6 from the line.
Other scorers included, Katlin Parks, six points, nine, rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block; Deasha Beasley, six points, three assists; Sarah O’Kelley, two points, a steal and a rebound; Laura Rose Pickens, two points, three rebounds; McKenna Rylee, two points and a rebound;
“We still have some things that must improve before the sub-region schedule,” said King. “We are committing to many turnovers and giving up to many offensive rebounds. We are losing a great deal of practice time due to the weather.”
