Region Duals ahead for MC

With the Region 8-AAAA Area Duals coming up this week, the Madison County mat Red Raiders are looking for a shot to the State Duals, Jan. 14-15. The Region 8-AAAA Area Duals this Friday and Saturday will be hosted by Clarke Central.

Flowery Branch, the three-time defending Hall County champions, will be competing for the first time this season in Region 8-AAAA.

The expected throwdown is going to be between Flowery Branch and Loganville, the defending Class AAAA state duals title holder from last season. Madison County will have a challenge on the mats as the entire area looks to advance to state.

The Red Raider wrestlers are coming off of a fourth-place finish from the 16-team tourney at the Lambert Hook 'Em Horns Holiday Clash held Dec. 28-29.
Overall winner Jefferson, the AA powerhouse, finished with a first place tie with West Forsyth. North Forsyth took third place.

Individual performances from the Lambert tournament include first place champion Cody Phillips in the 125 lbs. class going 7-0.

Isaac Ruiz earned second in the 145 lbs. class after winning six matches. At 119 lbs., Max Nash earned third with a 5-2 record. Madison County also had two fourth place finishes from Jeremy Colley, 5-3 at 285 lbs. and Kyle Gordon, 4-4 at 189 lbs.

Other individual performances included Tanner Gordon,112 lbs.; Ereck Larkins, 140 lbs.; Kyle Bates, 160 lbs.; Steven Resby, 171 lbs.; and Matt Dove, 215 lbs.
