Commerce Grapplers Head For Area Duals

The Commerce mat Tigers turned in another strong result last week as they placed second to Gilmer County at the Amicalola Classic in Dawson County.

Up next for Commerce’s grapplers is a trip to Wesleyan to take part in the Area Duals this Friday and Saturday. The top two finishers will qualify to go to the State Duals in Macon later this month.

The Tigers traveled to Dawson County last Thursday and Friday for the Amicalola Classic.

Commerce opened the competition by going 4-0 on Thursday, beating Dawson, Chattooga, Walnut Grove and Clarkston.

That put the Tigers against Gilmer County for top honors, but they came up short in the end to take second place.

Commerce had several wrestlers place in the event. First-place winners included Chance McClure (189 pounds), Serguio Rojas (285 pounds), and Addison Davis (160).

Others placing were Cole Ledford, second at 145; Morgan Flint, third at 171; Jacob Harrison, fourth at 103; Cody Legg, fourth at 112; Nick Henderson, fourth at 119; Greyson Cochran, fourth at 125 and Zach Harmon, fourth at 215.

“We’ve had several out still nursing sickness and injuries trying to get ready for this weekend at Wesleyan,” said coach Kendall Love.

Love said his team wrestled pretty well at Dawson County and had the opportunity wrestle everybody.

“It worked out pretty well,” he said.
