MC basketball continues Jan. 4

Full stats and game breakdowns will be in next week’s Madison County Journal. On Monday, the Madison County girls defeated the Jackson County Lady Panthers 51-43. Facing Central Gwinnett Tuesday, the Lady Red Raiders earned a 59-38 victory, before taking on Oconee County Dec. 29.

The Madison County boys split their first two games of the holiday tournament, trailing Heritage by 10 in the 61-51 Monday meeting and coming back to defeat Hebron 71-38 Tuesday afternoon. The Red Raiders played Oconee County Wednesday. Results weren’t available as of press time.

The team’s first region battle is a week away, when Madison County travels to Flowery Branch. The first home region match-up will come the following Tuesday, Jan. 11, when the Red Raider teams host Clarke Central.

Tip-off at Flowery Branch is scheduled for 7 p.m. for the Lady Red Raiders and the boys to follow. The Jan. 11 home games start at 6 p.m.

The Madison County JV teams also return to action with the varsity teams. The girls’ JV play Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. against Buford. Both JV teams play Flowery Branch starting at 4 p.m. with the girls. Then the boys’ JV team will take on Clarke Central at home Jan. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
