Basketball: Lady Dragons hope for quick start in 2011, face Hart Tuesday

Jefferson wrapped up the three-day Lanierland Holiday Tournament last Wednesday with a victory over Johnson. The Lady Dragons took the frustration of a blowout loss to Chestatee and an excruciatingly close loss to West Hall out on the Lady Knights, whipping them 55-28.

Bailey Boyd led Jefferson with nine points, Skylar Evanson added eight and Kellie Goza finished with seven. All 13 Jefferson players who dressed out, scored.

The Lady Dragons were able take advantage of transition point opportunities and also ended their 0-for-24 slump from the three-point line in the tournament during last Wednesday’s ball game.

“I was just glad we started to shoot the ball a little bit better,” Gibson said.

While Jefferson’s record is a modest 7-5 now, four of those losses have come by a combined 12 points. Gibson said this is a team that can do some good things.

“If our kids will really start to understand the importance of taking care of the basketball and rebounding the basketball and taking quality, hopefully we can be in the thick of things in the subregion,” Gibson said.
