The Lady Tigers picked up their first region win of the season Saturday by defeating the Lakeview Lady Lions. The win came in the midst of three losses in tournament play.
The Lady Tigers will have a little downtime next as they enter the Christmas break. They will break in the new Commerce High School gymnasium when they return to action on Friday, Jan. 7, as they play host to the Lady Indians of Towns County in a brand new facility.
The game will also mark the start of the main body of the Lady Tigers’ region schedule. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Hart County
Coming off a loss the week before to Jefferson, the Lady Tigers hoped to return to the win column as they traveled to Hart County to open the McDonald’s Shootout tournament against the host team.
The Lady Bulldogs gained the upper hand early and held onto the advantage, turning it into a 60-13 shellacking of the Lady Tigers.
Lakeview
Saturday, the Lady Tigers travelled to Gainesville to face Lakeview Academy.
The game was very back and forth from the start, with the score tied 10-10 at the end of the first period. Commerce took the lead in the second quarter, but Lakeview came back just before the half to take a one-point lead.
The Lady Lions moved out to an eight-point advantage in the third quarter, but Commerce closed the gap to three points, 28-25, by the end of the third. The Lady Tigers took the lead on a Vanessa Chandler three-pointer with about two minutes left to play. Drea Mathis made two free throws to ice Commerce’s first region win of the season.
Grier led in scoring with 13 points, followed by Chandler with eight and Hannah Davis with five.
Berea, SC

Grier led the scoring with 14 points. Chandler added six and Davis five.
Stephens County
Commerce faced Stephens County in the consolation bracket Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers got little consolation, falling 41-23.
