Mat Tigers At Dawson Co. Dec. 30

Chalk it up as another successful week of wrestling for the Commerce mat Tigers, as they picked up wins against Flowery Branch and Elbert County, along with a tournament victory at Madison County.

The Tigers will be off until the Amicalola Classic on Dec. 30-31. Action is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The wrestlers started the week with a home meet against Flowery Branch and Elbert County. Commerce came away the victor in both pairings, defeating Flowery Branch 35-28 and besting Elbert County 63-18.

Up next was a trip to Madison County for the Red Raider Duals tournament on Saturday.

The Mat Tigers came away as overall winners of the tournament. En route to the victory, they first bested Elbert County 68-12, followed by a win over Stephens County, 47-30, in the second round.

They defeated Habersham Central next, 64-18, to advance to the semifinal round. There, they won over Chestatee 42-34, sending to them to the finals against AAAA Chattahoochee.

It was a close match, but in the end, Commerce won, defeating Chattahoochee 36-34 to take the tournament win.
