MCHS wrestlers set for Red Raider Duals

Madison County grapplers brought home a seventh place finish from the Morgan County Christmas Classic last weekend, with one wrestler recording his first-ever high school tournament championship.

It was a undefeated run for the mat Red Raiders’ Max Nash at 125 lbs. Nash defeated all three opponents he faced to earn the win, the team’s highest at the tournament and his first at this level of competition.

Madison County also had a runner up finish after a hard fought match in the 130 lbs. division. Cody Phillips only lost one round, by decision, to go 3-1 and collect a second-place finish.

Isaac Ruiz went 4-1 at 152 lbs. for third place. Finishing fourth for the Red Raider grapplers were Kyle Bates at 160 lbs., Tanner Johnson at 189 lbs., and Matt Dove at 215 lbs.

The wrestlers now get set for the Madison County Duals this Saturday. The home tournament is the third to last before the Red Raiders break for the holidays.

Next week, the wrestlers dual at Elbert County, Dec. 21. After Christmas, the Red Raiders head back to the mats to compete in the Dec. 28-29 Lambert Invitational at Lambert High School.
