4-1 Tigers Head To Hart Tourney

Last Tuesday, the Tigers hosted Athens Academy and were looking to extend their season-opening win streak to three.

They wasted no time. The Tigers jumped to a 17-9 first-quarter lead and continued to control the game in the second, carrying a 26-15 lead into the second half. Outscoring Commerce 12-10 in the third period, the Spartans cut the lead to 36-26, but even a fourth-quarter rally in which they outscored the Tigers 18-12 wasn’t enough as Commerce went to 3-0 on the season, 48-45.

Brandon Romans and Bubba Bonds paced the offense with 13 points each. Anthony Norris scored nine, Thomas McMillan five, and Channing Anderson, Tyler Gamble, Marquese Butler and Chase Klugh scored two each.

Jefferson Wins

The win streak ended Friday night in Jefferson.

This time, it was the Dragons asserting themselves early, with a 25-14 first-quarter showing. The Tigers cut the gap to nine at the half, 39-20, but Jefferson extended the lead to 10, 54-44 after three periods.

The Tigers put on a big surge in the fourth quarter, adding 25 points, but the Dragons’ 20 points were enough to give Jefferson the 74-69 win.
