“We are still a work in progress,” Lampe said. “Tuesday’s game (against Hart County) was the first game I felt we had turned the corner and started picking up momentum.”

Madison County has averaged 20 turnovers per game, a number Lampe is looking to improve on, as well as the team’s overall offense. The standout for the Lady Red Raiders across the past five games has been Kayla Freeman, who has recorded five double-doubles in a row. This past Tuesday, against Hart County, Freeman scored 21 points and had 15 rebounds.

“She is doing well and really working hard,” Lampe said.

With the traditional rivalry on Friday against Franklin, the girls willneed a little left in the tank for Saturday as Madison County heads to Elbert County.

Elbert County is still getting rolling on the season and is 1-2 so far. During the past six match-ups, Madison County has won the last five in a row. Last season’s game was a close 48-45 battle.

The Elbert County games are starting earlier than previously reported. JV teams will start at 1 p.m. followed by the Lady Red Raiders at 4 p.m. and the varsity boys playing at 5:30 p.m.

Madison County’s girls have bounced back after a rough start last week against Cedar Shoals where Lampe described the opening period as “horrible.”
