Saboyce Shelton was 10-of-15 from the field and finished with a game high 23 points Tuesday night as the Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats defeated Monroe Area 66-28.

“The entire team played well,” said coach Michael Parks. “We played good defense and ran the floor great in transition. They played with a lot of energy and confidence so I hope it will continue.”

Shelton was a force as she also had 13 rebounds.

Lacresha Mayweather added 14 points while Aliya Ballard had nine points, seven assists and 10 steals.

The Lady Wildcats led 38-14 at halftime and 62-20 going into the fourth quarter which allowed for a running clock.

It was the second win of the 2010-2011 season for the AHS girls.

The Apalachee High School boys basketball team fell 62-40 to Monroe Area Tuesday night. The Purple Hurricanes improved to 5-0 with the win.

Rakim Peters scored eight points to lead the Wildcats, who will travel to East Jackson Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. contest. AHS won the earlier matchup.
