Lady Wildcats eye next contest

“Sometimes you need games like this, but you don’t want to be satisfied,” Lady Wildcat coach Michael Parks said. “We want to be a contender in our region. We have to maintain focus if we want to finish near the top.”

In Tuesday’s win, AHS (1-1) raced out to a 14-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Aliya Ballard finished with a team-high 12 points while Lacresha Mayweather and Amy Kelley both added nine points. Saboyce Shelton finished with six points.

The Lady Wildcats had built a commanding 28-10 lead by halftime.

“It’s still early,” Parks said. “In the Walnut Grove game we saw some things that we could improve on and we tried to do that tonight. Right now we are still treading water.”
A balanced offensive attack helped lead AHS Tuesday as nine players were in the scorebook.

The Lady Wildcats will host Loganville Friday at 7 p.m. It will be a game which should provide AHS with an early-season test from a fellow region team.

“That will be a measuring stick for us,” Parks said. “You hate to start focusing on it Tuesday night right after a win, but we are anxious to see where we are.”
