Girls' basketball: Rachel Goza's 14 points sparks JHS

Goza hit two big three-pointers and helped key a 17-6 second half run in the Lady Dragons’ 48-41 win over Mountain View, a second-year Class AAAAA school from Gwinnett County.

Jakeia Wilson added 10 points, going 6-of-9 from the free throw line. The sophomore hit four free throws in the final 1:03 as Jefferson pulled away.

The Lady Dragons trailed 31-27 midway through the third quarter, but Jefferson got a free throw from Wilson and lay-ins from Goza and Skylar Evanson to pull ahead 32-31. Goza then drilled a three-pointer to put Jefferson ahead 35-31.

Jefferson’s girls were nipped by a point in their opener three days earlier on Nov. 20, falling 32-31 to West Hall at home in the first round of the Tabo’s Tip-Off Tournament.

Freshman Bailey Boyd scored nine points to lead the Lady Dragons in her first high school game.
