The team scrimmaged against Hebron Christian at Dacula on Nov. 16, and prevailed 57-48. BCHS scored 15 points, in the first quarter, eight in the second; and 18 and 15 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
“We played well for three quarters,” head coach Jerry King said. “The second quarter was ugly. We need to get our legs under us to play four quarters.”
Individual scorers were Madison Franklin, 16; Deasha Beasley, 14; Taylor Kennedy, 13; Ashley Morris, six; Lauren Carter, three; Laura Pickens, two; Sarah O’Kelley, two; and Brandy Daniel, one;
“We shot the ball really well – 35.5 percent from behind the three-point line, and 54 percent inside the arc,” King said.
HIAWASSEE DAM
The Lady Leopards played against Hiawassee Dam High School, from Muphy, N.C., on Nov. 19, winning 53-21.
The team scored 27 points in the first quarter, two points in the second, and 16 and eight points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
“We didn’t score in the second quarter until a break-away steal with 30 seconds left in the half,” King said. “We came back and played a solid second half, which was good.”
Individual scorers were Deasha Beasley, 18; Taylor Kennedy, 12; McKenna Rylee, eight; Lauren Carter, five; Madison Franklin, four; and Laura Pickens, two.
King said that his team did not shoot as well as the prior scrimmage game, having only 26 percent from behind the arc and 43 percent inside.
HIGHLANDS SCHOOL
Against Highlands School, North Carolina, on Nov. 20, BCHS came away with a 61-39 win.
By quarters, the Leopards scored 13, 22, 17 and nine, in each.
“We put together a solid three quarters,” King said. “The last quarter was not as sharp, but we were able to hold on for the win.”
Those scoring individually were: Madison Franklin, 13 points; Deasha Beasley, eight; McKenna Rylee, eight; Lauren Carter, eight; Morgon Cox, four; Sarah O’Kelley, four; Terri Cregar, four; Taylor Kennedy, three; Brandy Daniel, two; and Laura Pickens, two.
“We have a great deal of work with many parts of our game,” King said. “But (I) was happy with the effort of the girls.”
Up next for the Lady Leopards, they will face Habersham Central High School at home on Nov. 30.
“This will be our first true test of the season facing a AAAA school,” Kind said.
