The Jefferson High School competitive cheerleading squad is headed to Columbus after making some history over the weekend.
The cheer Dragons won the school’s first-ever region cheerleading title Saturday, racking up 228 points at the 8-AA meet at North Gwinnett.
“This is the first time JHS Cheerleading has ever won a region championship,” coach Kayla Stephenson said. “The girls did a great job.”
The region win earns Jefferson a spot in the state meet Saturday at 2 p.m. in Columbus.
Other schools qualifying for state out of Region 8-AA were East Jackson (second place), Jackson County (third place) and North Oconee (fourth). These three teams will compete in sectionals Friday in Columbus for a spot in the state finals on Saturday.
