The Jackson County Comprehensive High School competitive cheerleading squad tallied 201 points to finish third at the region meet and earn a pass to this weekend’s state meet in Columbus.
“We are very excited about qualifying for state,” coach Amy Powers said. “The girls have had an excellent season and pushed themselves to new levels. I am extremely proud of them for everything they have accomplished this year.”
The Panthers will compete Friday in the state sectionals in Columbus for a spot in the state finals.
Jackson County actually earned 211 points at the region meet — which was held at North Gwinnett —but was deducted 10 for two falls.
The Panthers finished behind Jefferson and East Jackson, which are both headed to state as well.
Also earning a pass to state out of Region 8-AA is North Oconee.
