Madison County coach Randell Owens has often said that Rockdale County has as good athletes as any “walking the halls.”
But it’s the Raiders’ job to make sure the ones in uniform don’t sprint up and down the football field at will Friday night.
Madison County opens the season Friday night against what Owens described as a dangerous Rockdale County outfit, despite the Conyers team’s 1-9 mark last fall.
“If you make a mistake against them, it’s pretty unforgiving,” Owens said.
Rockdale County has a new coach this year, Michael Etheridge, after last year’s one-win season.
Loaded with athleticism in the backfield, Rockdale County’s speed is potent enough to score from anywhere on the field. Owens said a team can play solid defense against a team like Rockdale all night, only to get burned by another number of fast Bulldogs with just one defensive breakdown.
