East Jackson C.C. Heads For State Meet

The East Jackson cross country teams wrapped up their region schedule over the weekend, competing in the 8-AA region championship meet at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson.

Both teams now move on to the state meet Saturday at Carrollton. The boys are slated to race at 2:30 p.m., with Cale Pirtle being the lone Eagle to qualify at the region meet. The girls are scheduled to race at 3 p.m., with East Jackson being represented by Sherri Blalock, Courtney McDowell, Caroline Flynn, Cora McDowell, Amanda Anderson, Skyler Cozzens, Sheena McEachin and MacKenzie Parr.

At Jefferson, the girls finished fourth out of 12 teams, trailing region champion Jackson County, Jefferson and Dawson County.

Sherri Blalock turned in the top time for the girls, finishing third out of 81 runners with a time of 21:20. Other results included Courtney McDowell, 16th (23:20), Sheena McEachin, 21st (24:00), Skyler Cozzens, 23rd (24:07), McKenzie Parr, 30th (24:34), Amanda Anderson, 38th (25:18) and Cora McDowell, 56th (27:28).

Meanwhile, the boys placed ninth out of 13 teams, trailing region champion North Oconee, Dawson County, Union County, Elbert County, Banks County, Oglethorpe County, Jefferson and Hart County.

Cale Pirtle paced the boys, placing fourth out of 90 runners with a time of 17:58.
