Local pride on the line for Jefferson, East Jackson
No banner or trophy will be awarded Friday but there is one lucrative piece of non-hardware available: county-wide bragging rights.
In what’s being billed informally as the “Jackson County championship,” Jefferson (4-4, 2-3) will face East Jackson (3-5, 2-3) at home at 7:30 p.m. While nothing more than pride is at stake, it’s enough to motivate two teams that are out of state playoff contention.
“It would mean a lot,” Jefferson quarterback Bryant Shirreffs said of the unofficial county title. “We’ve been talking about it … We still, obviously, have a shot at it.”
Sophomore quarterback Bryant Shirreffs leads Jefferson into Friday night's game with rival East Jackson.
