East Jackson Teams Take Second At Home

The East Jackson cross country teams turned in strong showings at home last week in their final regular season meets, as both the boys and girls took second place last Tuesday at EJCHS.

Both teams look towards this Saturday and the 8-AA Region Championship meet at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson.

At East Jackson on Oct. 19, both teams showed they will be contenders for the region title.

For the boys, a host of juniors led East Jackson to a second-place finish out of nine teams, following only Gainesville while beating out region opponents Elbert County, Jackson County and Oglethorpe County.
Junior Cale Pirtle ran a 17:11, setting a new school record, to place fourth out of 103 runners.

He was followed by junior Stuart Robinett in ninth (18:11), junior Edward Stone 15th (18:48), junior Michael Adair 16th (18:50), sophomore Tyler Cone 26th (19:23), sophomore Cory McClung 30th (19:42) and freshman Quinton Rice 32nd (19:48), all of whom had personal best times.

Other runners included Adrian Woodruff (21:23), Jake Thaxton (21:33), Dylan Anderson (22:45), Jordan Presley (22:47, personal best), Kyle Wood (23:11), Rhett Vanderford (28:52, personal best) and Sam Derochers (28:58 personal best).

The girls also placed second out of nine teams, following only Jackson County while they outdistanced region opponents Elbert County, East Hall and Oglethorpe County.

Senior Sherri Blalock ran a national elite time of 19:58 in her last home meet to take first out of 94 runners.

Courtney McDowell placed sixth (22:01), Sheena McEachin ninth (22:45, personal best), Amanda Anderson 13th (23:04), Skyler Cozzens 14th (23:18, season best) and McKenzie Parr 16th (23:24).

Other runners included Cora McDowell (26:52), Caroline Flynn (27:58), Corbin Williams (28:08) and Liz Allred (28:59).
