Duel With The Dragons

The Dragons enter Friday night fresh off a 42-21 win over Jackson County, but having lost to the same region teams as the Eagles – Hart County, North Oconee and Elbert County.

Both are 2-3 in the region. The Dragons have scored 195 points this season, 24.4 per game, while the Eagles have scored 148, an 18.5 per-game average. East Jackson has allowed 135 points to Jefferson’s 193.

Jefferson has won the two previous pairings between the two teams.

Kick off is at 7:30.

Elbert County

Right from the start, the Eagles knew they were in for a challenge at the Granite Bowl Friday night.

Just 13 seconds into the game, the Blue Devils scored on the opening kick, running the ball back 78 yards to take a 7-0 lead.

The Eagles appeared to have an opportunity to even things up when the Blue Devils fumbled a punt, allowing the Eagles to take possession in Elbert County territory. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, however, and the Blue Devil defense held.

The Eagles missed a 37-yard field goal attempt, and at the half, the score remained 7-0.

The Blue Devils picked up another touchdown on their first possession of the third quarter, running the ball in from 62 yards to increase their lead. A missed extra point attempt left it 13-0.

The Blue Devils would score again later in the quarter to make it a 20-0 lead.

The Eagles had a late opportunity in the fourth quarter when they attempted a fake punt, snapping the ball to C.J. Allen. The ruse worked and Allen ran the ball 53 yards to the three-yard line, only to have the ball knocked loose by an Elbert County defender. The Blue Devils recovered, keeping the Eagles off the board.
