This Friday night, the Leopards are back at home and hosting Fannin County (4-3; 2-1) in what will probably be the biggest showdown on this side of the region.
“Fannin is definitely good,” said Armstrong, who has faced the Rebels several times in his career, “We have to out tough them to beat them.”

“They will bring their A game Friday night,” he said. “They want to knock us off and it is going to be a very physical game. We are going to have to hit them and concentrate on stopping them.”

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Homer.

Fannin County has traditionally been a running football team, but Armstrong noted that this year the Rebels are throwing a bit more. The Leopards are also playing a better-balanced game this year, making the concept of last year’s 31-14 loss highly unlikely, but it doesn’t mean Banks County is a shoe-in.

According to Armstrong, turnovers and penalties are what killed Fannin three weeks ago in the Dawson County game. He is also hoping that the home field advantage on Friday night will help keep the Leopards focused and ready to deliver a hard hit to Fannin and further secure Banks’ place for the region play-in Nov. 5.

With two very important games still left in the regular season, Armstrong is also looking to keep the boys healthy and ready to go onto the field.

“It is tough on the kids right now with colds and flu going around. Catching the flu shuts down a team. Fortunately, everyone is here and ready to go and we are hoping to keep it that way.”
