CC boys go 4 years undefeated at home

Next week, Banks County heads back to Jefferson for the region meet at Crow’s Lake. Region competition is Oct. 28 with the first race starting at 4 p.m.

On Monday, the cross-country team honored 16 seniors. Coach McDuffie said that the team is sad to see the seniors go, but glad that they will be graduating. As part of the recognition, the seniors each received a shirt with ‘We are who we say we are!’ on the back. McDuffie said that the phrase was the best way to describe the group.

The 2010 seniors are Jayda Richey, David Banks, David Camarena, Clay Beck, Jared Clark, Ivan Diaz, Taylor Goodson, Michael Lyons, Trey Martin, Doug Maynor, Seth McEntire, Pedro Mendoza, Javier Padron, Viet Pham, Michael Wheeler and Brian Linn.

Following the ceremony, the Banks County boys (22) defeated Madison County (42), Franklin County (77), Towns County (141) and Commerce (169) runners.
The boys had 80 percent run their best home times, with Ivan Diaz leading the way in an 18.33 effort. Trey Martin was next across the line at 19.01, followed by Francisco Hurtado at 19.32. Jacob Schaeffer (20.03), and Tuan Pham (20.10) rounded out the top five Leopard runners.

The girls competed next with Banks County, earning 53 points trailing Franklin (34) and Towns (37). Commerce and Madison County did not have any runners for the girls’ race.

Maggie McCoy led the girls for Banks County at 23.45. Kara Murphy was the second fastest Leopard girl at 27.13. Marissa Lewis (29.49) was just ahead of Bridget Marlow (29.50), with Rachel Guthrie (30.30) finishing out the top five for the Banks County girls. The girls had 70 percent of the runners make their best home-course times on Monday.
